Ants Nest Safari Lodge

Ants Nest Ants Hill

Just amused myself by listening to a presentation on Ants Nest and Ants Hill, in the Waterberg Mountains, north of Johannesburg. I saw the words wedding venue and was there like a shot (and I must admit that I feel a bit sheepish about it!).

These are lodges for horse lovers – or potential horse lovers!! What really got me interested was that they recently had a wedding at Ants Hill and the groom and bride decided that they loved their horses so much, that they rode right up to the priest and had their ceremony on horseback. Can you imagine?

While Ants Nest and Ants Hill don’t have the Big Five (only rhino, leopard and buffalo), they do have all sorts of horses. Whenever you feel like it, you either hop on your horse or into the vehicle and go on game safari. There is a horse to suit everyone, even someone like me who can’t even mount a horse without falling over onto the other side (sadly there are pictures to prove it!).

Ants Nest is a private reserve situated about a 3 hour drive north of Johannesburg. There are two lodges on the property, Ants Nest and Ants Hill.

Ants Hill has 4 suites and you can either take one room as a couple or a group can take out the whole place. The lodge has a very romantic atmosphere and the rooms are far enough from each other to afford complete privacy

Ants Nest has more of a family vibe, but the great thing here is that you have to take the whole place. So you never share with people you don’t know. With 6 rooms, it is perfect for a small wedding party!

It is out of my price bracket, but may interests you.
