Rodwell House

Rodwell House Rodwell House honeymoon

I went for a visit to Rodwell House in Kalk Bay this week. Kalk Bay is a small fishing village on the southern peninsular of Cape Town. The water is warm, the people are friendly and the views are spectacular. What more could you want from your honeymoon?

Well, there is a simple answer to that question!!!! Superb rooms, luxury, brilliant staff that know when to back away and awesome surroundings. If you can add white beaches and warm water as well as tasty food, then you have a winning combination.

Rodwell House has all of this; and more. If you have short arms and long pockets, then Rodwell House isn’t going to work for you. It costs a couple of pennies. But in my opinion it is well worth every cent spent.

Robin, the owner of Rodwell House is a hands on manager who takes a genuine interest in his guests. He is a wine lover and has a massive cellar full of excellent South African wines. He isn’t shy to bring them out for tastings or even just a chat and a drink! Added to this, the chef puts together some of the best food I have had in a while, so between the food and the wine, you feel like you have just floated into heaven.

The suites at Rodwell House are massive. Some overlook the sea while others have the mountain spilling through the window. All the rooms are modern and have similar décor. Most have open plan bathrooms, perfect for romantic candlelit evenings. If you are the type that likes to keep to your room and your own devices, then the rooms are certainly big enough for that. If you prefer to get out, then there are two large lounges, a massive pool area, an outside relaxation area and a couple of balconies and private areas to enjoy.

The beach is right there, you cross over the road and onto the sand. The water is warm on this side of the city (unlike Camps Bay which has water cold enough to kill an Eskimo!!) and the beach is lovely. You can also walk along the path to Muizenberg and the beautiful beach there.

Rodwell House suits honeymooners, people wanting to relax, wine lovers, beach bums and anyone who wants a luxury experience without completely breaking the bank.
