Everybody has a favourite pizza place and I am no different. Borruso’s on Kenilworth Main Road is right up there at the top of my restaurant tree.
Borruso’s is a little different from most restaurants in Cape Town in that they don’t take bookings. You arrive and are usually seated pretty quickly. Especially early in the evening. If there isn’t a table available, then you have a drink in the courtyard while you wait. I don’t know how they do it, but I have never waited longer than 10 minutes for a table - and they are always pumping.
The pizzas are superb. The Porcopeppa with bacon, feta pepperdews and some added avo is legendary. Bases are nicely thin and they don’t skimp on the toppings.
I am a bit of a pasta fantatic and here I must say that Borruso’s outdo themselves. The standard lasagne is delicious, but the Mafiosa pasta is outstanding. A mix of bacon, liver, olives, chilli and garlic in a tomato based sauce, this is my favourite dish in Cape Town. I choose to leave out the livers and add some chilli and the evening is made!
Prices are cheap and you can pay less than R100 for two people. Take your own wine, they don’t charge corkage. Enjoy.
