We have had a major break-through! The first wedding venue we booked in Greyton has been cancelled (thanks mom!). Actually, I loved the venue but my Dear Fiancé (DF) wasn’t enamored. It was a rustic self catering venue with cottages for everyone to spend the weekend and DF was worried that the weekend with the friends would over shadow the wedding. And to be fair, I suspect he has a point (although I am loath to admit it to him!).
So now we hunt for a venue that we both like. Not an easy affair. But I have had a look at three different places.
The Range, is a popular wedding venue, set amongst vineyards in Constantia, Cape Town. Seats up to around 120 people, and has its own little chapel. Great venue, good price BUT, we only have about 50 people, so that is a no go.
The Strandlooper Restaurant is a favourite of mine. It is an open air restaurant on the beach in Langebaan, about 1,5 hours drive from Cape Town. The bonus is that they will marry you right there on the beach. Food is about 8 courses of seafood and they have a guitar player strumming away. And best of all, they allow you to bring your own booze free of charge. Again there is always a drawback, and this time it is weather driven. If it rains, they can’t open the restaurant. And since we are getting married while the weather may still be bad, we can’t chance it
Constantia Nek Restaurant is one of the oldest establishments in Cape Town. Cute and cosy with massive fire places and great food. The upside here is that they have a great band playing on the weekends, so no need to hire a DJ. And the menu is cheap. The venue seats 200 people, but they can block off a section to suit any number of people. So this seems like the one. Going there on Friday to take a final look around. And best of all, we can have an informal ceremony in the vineyards overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. How romantic is that!!!
I know that I haven’t actually got to the honeymoon planning stage yet, but don’t worry as soon as the date and venue are set, the planning of the honeymoon will follow!

For something really special, why not consider South Hill for a country wedding with style? Only an hour’s drive from Cape Town with plenty of reasonably priced accomodation nearby for guests who would like to make a weekend of it! With top chef Gordon Manuel now permanently based on the farm you’ll be guaranteed brilliant cuisine and with all the award winning South Hill wines sold at cellar door prices (even at the restaurant and venue), you won’t get a nasty surprise when presented with the bar bill!
