The wedding is over, the honeymoon on Rovos Rail and in Namibia is a thing of the past and I have finally caught up at work. The wedding was absolutely magical.
As you know, our venue was dropped at the last minute due to new owners and no assistance. We decided to do the deed in my parents garden - ceremony and reception. It was a massive gamble as we didn’t have a tent booked. So it the rain had come, we would have been in real trouble.
Turns out the weather was perfect barring a small drizzle about 3 hours before we were set to start. I had a small panic, but settled into notion that whatever happens happens.
We spent two days decorating. Tables got cloths and candles made from jars with tea lights in them. The trees were decorates with tins with holes and a candle that shone through. It looked amazing and hardly cost anything.
The ceremony went off without a hitch - except that my husband forgot the rings. But it added humour and fun to the whole thing. And the views of the mountain were unforgettable.
What I learned from the experience is that it isn’t the flowers, food, fancy decoration that make the wedding, it is the love between the couple getting married and the friends and family gathered around you.
I will tell you all about the honeymoon in my next post.
